The whole time we were working on the stone wall out back I kept looking at the other end of our yard where, according to the neighbors, some Bosnians rebuilt the stone wall before we moved in. I can’t imagine how they did this but it puts our efforts to shame.

I used to see farmers doing walls like this out in rural Pennsylvania when I was little. They spend some time choosing which stone to put next as they go. Almost treating it like a jigsaw puzzle. They also use a little hammer that taps the stones into place for that smooth exterior feel.
I’m sure you have the right stones, they’re just not in the right order. Probably wouldn’t take more than 2 weeks of hard labor in the hot sun to take it apart & put it back together.

Now THAT is reassuring! And has so many applications!
