The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released this report. I’m passing it on.
The ice caps are melting, sea ice in the Arctic is collapsing, water supplies are coming under stress, heat waves and heavy rains are intensifying, coral reefs are dying, and fish and many other creatures are migrating toward the poles or in some cases going extinct.
The oceans are rising at a pace that threatens coastal communities and are becoming more acidic as they absorb some of the carbon dioxide given off by cars and power plants, which is killing some creatures or stunting their growth.
Organic matter frozen in Arctic soils since before civilization began is now melting, allowing it to decay into greenhouse gases that will cause further warming, the scientists said. And the worst is yet to come.
There must be something we can do about this.

This expert sez its basically all over. We poss could have done something extreme in the 60s to combat it, but thats water under the bridge now. He basically says just enjoy the time thats left, good advice regardless.

As you know I blogged extensively about this from 2005-2008. I stopped when the press finally started covering it more generally. It’s a different planet now and we cannot change that. We’ll adapt but it’s going to be hard.
Try going through all the news in the last year and replacing the term ‘extreme weather’ with ‘climate change’. Then you can see the scope right now.
It’s the people at the top – go there, try not to lured in to their sense of entitlement and their ease at living like — well, like they deserve it, which is what their whole educational systems and cozy profession worlds tell them . If you can stay pure, maybe you can help slide them out of their comfort zone.
there is nothing to be done, enjoy what is left of the natural world, the change is exponential, our generation may see the end. maybe if life re evolves on the the planet they will be better stewards of the earth. meanwhile if things get too bad i am expecting my friends to show up in Tennessee to ride things out on the commune.
This isn’t about any of us who read this blog- we’re too old. A ten year old now is going to grow up thinking we were the most selfish and foolish generation in the history of the planet. Probably be known as ‘the fatties’. Because we’ve been total pigs. Not just the rich people, everyone.
Ask yourselves why every adult needs their own car? That’s just one example, but the big one. When is the last time anyone here rode a bus (foreign countries don’t count)? Or walked to buy groceries? Etc., etc.
