Rock and roll is dying. The process is so slow it only looks like “never.” Decay has been part of the art form for ages. Monty’s Crown on Monroe Avenue is an ideal host for the long funeral, darts, long bar, a dozen beers on tap, a back room with a PA for the band and a pool table stage left. Green shamrocks with the word “Blue” on them were carefully arranged by a beer rep in the front window. All this with two bands on the bill for a three dollar cover. That price hasn’t budged in thirty years.
Dave Anderson was there, Chris from the Squires, Joe Tunis from Carbon, Chris Schepp and Ted Williams of course. Hook Face and Nod were brilliant. Long live rock ‘n roll.

Rock and Roll is dying? Have you told Jack White? Plus, that looks like a pretty happening gig. Wish we had been there. Found this piece in the Times on life and death equally fascinating — my constant preoccupation here in this Wonderland Where We Live

It can’t die fast enough for me. It sure looks like a corpse someone keep trying to revive.
Wow, That’s so sad Martin. I think the oldies should maybe stop destroying their gorgeous songs of youth (I won’t name names). A powerfully influential form of rebellion through music. May the young create their own.
THe oldies singing rock and roll, yes they do look like corpses — move over, you have had your time!
Mick & Keith…go for it. Paul McCartney… please stop.
To me, most of it is no different than Lawrence Welk reruns, including kids in bands imitating their grandparents. We didn’t do that, we did new stuff. Not hearing anything new. Though I must say Nod and Margaret Explosions are something different. But I’m a musical curmudgeon!
Isn’t it a sign of age when we see nothing new? Even Mick has lost his voice — listen to the old recordings of Gimme Shelter. They can give you goosebumps..
Anyway, I always feel I am getting old when I complain I can’t find any good new music. It is out there, it seems to me, I just have to find it. Bon journee!
I agree!
Matt & Kim are very fun to see. They’re in their early 30’s. You can’t stop smiling when you see this very entertaining powerhouse duo live-Kim on drums and Matt on keyboards and vocals. Kevin Patrick manages them and gets us comps when they come to town.
