Gilbert was a soldier in the Canadian Army during World War I, and on discharge he accepted the Canadian Goverment's invitation and assistance to move to the Ayers Cliff, Quebec near Sherebrooke and establish a Farm.
Previous to this he had been living in Montreal where he & Cora ran a Boarding House. Gilbert liked to drink like his brother William.........and maybe his Father.....who was divorced for some unknown reason.....just a guess.
Gilbert stopped drinking when because of drinking he missed picking up the body of his Daughter Clara Bell when she died in 1940 and the body came to Town by Train.......this was a story from Pat....which I may have garbeled in translation.
