Justus Eisenberg died @ the Battle of Gettysburg. Imagine coming to this country, looking for a new life, and within less than ten years after arrival, enlisting in the US Army to defend his new country, and the dying on a battlefield, with probably not even understanding the causes. Leaving a wife and five children. A sad story of War and its consequences.

Mrs. Christianna Eisenberg......”Family Rock”
“In my opinion the real strength in the Eisenberg Family is Christianna (Christina) Justus’s wife.
In 1862 Justus goes to War and leaves Christina with four children at home, (Conrad’s gone to War), Katherine 15, John 10, Adam 8, and Lillian 3.
She can’t read or write, but she buys a home by herself in 1862 (october 10th) and signs with an “X”. She brings up these children herself.
It appears Christina takes care of John’s children after the death of both his young wifes. She is 56 years old and taking care of George and Jennie.
Christina’s problems with her son Adam are well documented. She is 80 when Adam gave her a beating when she does not give him money to drink.
In a time when things were very difficult she was he rock in the family.”

Questions & Comments: on above information:
Christina........mother of 4..........yet 5 children shown? Was Kate her child?
Court...must have been Conrad. but I have him born in 1844, ..1865-19 = 1846
John was 24 in 1875 NYS Census, born = 1851, but this 1865 says 1865-13 = 1852
Adan birth date would have been.....1865-11 = 1854.....which is what I had.
Lily......I assigned her to be married to Frank Harvey...was this correct?
Kate ...I assigned her to be married to George Ferge....was this correct?
Kate was said to have been a widow?.....was she really 18 and the daughter of Christina..if Christina only had four children.?
This (Adams birth) indicates that Justus came to America approximately....in 1852 or 1853
